You could qualify for underpin protection in the LGPS because of a deferred pension you have in a different public service pension scheme. Transferring that other pension to a different scheme may affect your protection in the LGPS.
- If you first joined the other scheme after you left the LGPS, your protection in the LGPS will not change when you transfer
- If you transfer the pension to the LGPS or a different public service pension scheme, your protection in the LGPS will not change
- If you were a member of the other scheme before you joined the LGPS, then transferring it out of the public service pensions sector could create a disqualifying gap. This would mean that your LGPS pension is not protected by the underpin.
